What a sobering reminder Job gives (Job 27:8) of the plight of the unbeliever…
“For what is the hope of the godless when God cuts him off, when God takes away his life?”
Jesus put it this way…
“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done.” (Matt. 16:26-27)
It’s easy for us as believers to trip through life giving little or no thought to (or having little or no concern for) the fate of pagans. But the fact of the matter is that, when God takes away their lives, there is no more hope for them. Their only hope lies on this side of eternity in the person and work of Jesus Christ. And it’s our job to tell them that!
“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And are they to hear without someone preaching?” (Romans 10:14)
